Real-Time Leak Detection in Orlando/FL: A Successful Test of Global Interoperability

Client Profile
Residential rental property located in Orlando, Florida (USA), managed by a Brazilian owner and leased to a long-term tenant.
Challenge
To validate the interoperability, accuracy, and real-time responsiveness of WiserMeter’s platform in a real-life scenario in the United States, using different communication infrastructures. The goal was to monitor water consumption remotely and detect leaks as quickly as possible.
Solution Implemented
- Installation of 3 Qalcosonic W1 ¾” ultrasonic meters from AXIOMA METERING.
- Communication setup:
- One meter connected via the public Helium LoRaWAN network
- Two meters connected through a private LoRaWAN network, using two on-site gateways integrated with WiserMeter’s own LoRaWAN network server built on ChirpStack.
- Full integration with the WiserMeter platform, enabling:
- Real-time data reception from all meters
Automatic leak detection algorithms
Immediate email notifications to the property owner in case of anomalies
Results
On May 24th, 2025, between 00:00 and 01:00 AM (Orlando time), the system detected a continuous water flow of 121 liters/hour, indicating a potential leak.
At 9:32 AM, less than 10 hours later, an automated email alert was sent to the property owner.- The owner promptly contacted the tenant, who identified the leak and shut off the water valve, effectively stopping the water loss.
- Impact:The incident confirmed the platform’s ability to respond rapidly to anomalies, reducing water waste and avoiding high utility costs.

This unplanned leak incident served as a real-world stress test and marked the successful completion of WiserMeter’s pilot program in Orlando. It proves that the platform is ready to scale and operate effectively in the U.S. market
